Learning Meditation
The easiest way to learn meditation is to have a guide. In many Eastern meditation traditions, a student attaches himself to a teacher, or guru, for many years. Today, however, you can learn to meditate effectively in 20 minutes a day.
Roy Masters, author of 16 books and America's longest-running radio show host, has developed a technique he calls "Be Still and Know." While it bears some similarities to Eastern practices in both method and results, there are two crucial differences. First, those who use "Be Still and Know" will have lasting results, rather than the temporary relief obtained from other means of meditation.
The second crucial difference is in how the practitioner deals with negative thoughts and feelings--this is the reason for the lasting results. In traditional forms, the goal is to banish all extraneous thoughts for the duration of the meditation. Repressing them, however, can only be a temporary solution, and once the meditation ends, they will come back with a vengeance.
By using Masters' guided meditation, available on audiotape or CD or as a free download, you will learn how to deal with those thoughts rather than denying them. By learning not to react to negative stimuli, you come to understand and accept them, thereby permanently releasing their power over you.
