Guided Meditation
"Be Still and Know," developed by Roy Masters, is fundamentally different from all other types of meditation. Many other types of meditation are actually techniques for self-hypnosis. Repetition of a mantra blankets the mind and puts reality at a distance. It may temporarily seem to relieve stress or make you feel good, but in the long run, escape from reality isn't going to solve any problems.
The word meditate has two meanings. It can mean a withdrawal from reality, a numbing repetition that drives all thought from your mind. Or it can mean to think deeply about a particular topic. Neither of these meanings precisely describes the Masters technique. It is intended to wake you from the hypnosis of your everyday life, not hypnotize you further.
As for thought, there is a big difference between seeking understanding and striving to answer a question or solve a problem. The seeker remains open to whatever information may appear and evaluates it without emotion. The striver, on the other hand, searches feverishly for that one bit of information that he believes will make him feel good, ignoring other avenues that might be more valuable.
"Be Still and Know" allows you to de-stress not by denying or repressing your emotions, nor by frantically looking for information to neutralize them, but by observing them rationally and non-judgmentally. The technique helps you to free yourself from ego responses such as anger and resentment. Download it from the website or order a tape or CD, and discover how easy it can be to release yourself from the "slings and arrows of outrageous fortune."
