Free Meditation
There are many types of meditation and many ways in which it can be taught. In some traditions, you must apprentice to a teacher for many years. Some modern meditation leaders charge hefty fees for their workshops and classes. Roy Masters, who developed the "Be Still and Know" meditation technique nearly 50 years ago, has been making it available to anyone who can benefit from this unique method.
If you want to own a copy of his guided meditation, you can purchase an audiotape or CD for a nominal fee. If you can't afford that, however, Roy has made it available to you as a free download from the website of his Foundation of Human Understanding. There you can also download several of his 16 books without charge.
The Masters technique differs significantly from other approaches. Traditional meditation, derived from the Dharmic religions of Asia, induces a kind of self-hypnosis through the use of a mantra or by focusing attention on your breath or a visual object such as a candle flame. Practitioners feel a momentary peace because any negative thoughts are barred from consciousness.
Masters believes that these thoughts should not be buried or denied. Instead, he guides you to pay attention to them and observe them dispassionately. Once you can accept negative thoughts without reacting emotionally, you have an objectivity that allows you real peace. This is his gift to you.
