They have gone to extremes, adding rituals and ceremonies endlessly, talking up a storm, thinking they shall be heard for much speaking. Jesus said, "When you pray, do not pray with vain repetition like the heathens do, for they think they shall be heard for much talking."

MAN: Vain repetition?

ROY: Yes, vain repetition of words intellectualizes and em­balms the spirit of their meaning. So, repeating the Lord's Prayer would be vain also.

MAN: Matthew 6:7.

ROY: And they are caught up in rituals and language, thinking that somehow, through language, by repeating high-sounding noises over and over again, they are going to improve their lot.

MAN: Or the Catholics' "Hail, Mary, Mother of God" chant._

ROY: Yes. Boy, have they missed the boat!

MAN: And yet there is a positive attitude toward language in the Judeo-Christian tradition, not only in the Old Testament, in the Jewish Scripture. In Psalms I: 19, for example, you have a hundred verses or more where it
