ROY: He also said to meditate on the Word-not on "words." I can assure you that the mere verbalizing of "Our Father" never helped a soul.

MAN: And yet Christ taught. . .

ROY: But there is something missing, something incomplete in the statement. I am not discrediting the words of Jesus. I want you to understand what he meant by them.

MAN: But that is a presupposition, actually; of yours, which may not have any foundation, other than the fact that Christianity is a customary structure.

ROY: And he also said to "be still and know." That is anti-linguistic. He also said, "In vain do you keep tradition, making to no effect the Word of God."

MAN: Correction-that was David, the psalmist. I just want to conclude this discussion of language by pointing out that the Judeo-Christian tradition is at odds with the Zen, Krishnamurti, Eastern, and Existentialist types of mentality, all of which are anti-linguistic.
