ROY: Right. In other words, objectivity to thought puts a distance between you, thought, and worldliness, yet brings you closer to what I call Reality, the original wordless Word way of knowing things. From this vantage point, we can scrutinize thought. We can see where and how thoughts arise. And that alone purges and resolves egocentric knowledge springing from negative sources. Now, if for any reason you fall into the thinking process, you become fused with language and its deceitful source. Then the knower is no longer objective. The knower becomes one with the thought, so the knower is so much the extension of false knowledge that he can no longer think in any other way-only from words, through which he was seduced in the first place. The only way he can know anything is through memory, which, not having originated with him, is dependent upon seductive, dangerous, malicious influences.

MAN: By a fall to language, do you mean that we have a language identity?

ROY: Right. You have a language identity evolving from a failing, based upon, and sustained by, an original appeal to pride. After you fall from understanding, life, and hope, you cannot find your way back. That other way becomes your true understanding, life, and hope, and you become enmeshed in language by the spirit hidden in, quickened, and edited by language, like a snake in the grass.

MAN: But is there a place to be above it and yet use it properly?
