                                                                           Barriers to Understanding

from their hypnotic, sinful fixation to language, from being so oversensitive to words. Surely you see how sensitive you are to words. I know that I was when I was a child, and as I became conscious of that fact, I asked myself why this was so. Only recently has my question been answered. It is a problem of faith, of not being in concert with the wordless Words in one's own heart.

MAN: Sartre, who, I believe just passed away; was a French Existentialist who was quite adamant against language as being a possibility for finding meaning in life.

ROY: People who use language to teach, to lead, or to mislead lie when they tell you that you can Had some satisfaction, some light at the end of the tunnel, some hope, some beneficial goal, through learning (language). Any type of study; whether it is learning mathematics or religion, will destroy you through widening the schism between under­standing and the falling ego-self
     Understanding leads in one way; and knowledge leads in another. Pure language is a neurotic, lopsided compensation, an attempt through struggle and analysis, to make up for the void of understanding. It will kill you as surely as I am speaking to you now.
     Partaking of the Tree of Knowledge (intellectual discipline) causes a false nature to spring up around the core of the seductive word. It also involves a seed of a wrong identity; an alien spirit of deceit, a false conscience. And it is this alien spirit in you that talks to you in your mind as though it were a guiding light. That's the way it was with your parents when they corrupted you.
