                                                                           Barriers to Understanding

though they were our only means of understanding life. We are caught up in words, language, and their seductive spirit, because we have lost track of the original Way.

MAN: We were created linguistic, verbalizing beings.

ROY: Yes, we were. No doubt there was an original language, but it must have had some dimension of understanding or balance.

MAN: According to the Scriptures, God communicated with us verbally.

ROY: Yes, but remember my saying that I have known things all along without knowing why or how I knew.

MAN: Like intuition as opposed to­

ROY : I have always known without an academic basis or confirmation. I am like a sparrow that knows how to build a nest, or a bee that can build a hive, without ever having been taught. I can speak from my heart about what I know when called upon to do so. I speak understanding to others, not so much to teach but to awaken them to their own inner knowing. Through sincere communication, we can con­firm faith and enhance each other's inner knowing. For in­stance, you in your experience stand in relationship to your Creator privately, as I do. It is the same Creator, but each one of us has a little facet of the All-knowing One, a different viewpoint, because
