                                                                           Barriers to Understanding

so "logical," and just sampling the dream seems to afford some relief, giving false credence to the false knowing. But only through suffering do you learn the awful truth about such logic. Only as hell pours through the open breach of the mind can you feel the horror, the betrayal. And then, perhaps, you can see the liar speaking, thinking, teaching, misleading. Once "it" gets inside you, it no longer speaks to you only from the outside, it now speaks also from the in­side. So when a devil speaks, a devil within listens and agrees with what it wants to hear.
     Teaching, at best, is a secondhand experience. Knowledge that can run parallel to the track of common sense is good, but not good enough. When you fully realize that and jump the track to leave ordinary knowledge be­hind, then understanding becomes living knowledge. When the silent witness makes you say; "This is Truth," you will free yourself from the stuffy closet of knowledge and start living by the light of understanding.
     How do you know that Truth is Truth? You will know because of the testimony; the witness within you which says, "It is right." But, more important, it will make you realize you are wrong when you are wrong. Be careful! Watch this! If you just say; "That is right" and fail to realize that you have been wrong, you are still in danger of being identified with an outside "truth" a charismatic, religious, or educated leader. And outside truth is secondhand and dead as far as you are concerned.
     In order for Truth to come alive in you, you must allow knowledge to bring you to understanding. Understanding is knowledge realized, and realization makes you repent of the
