                                                                           Barriers to Understanding

Notice how emotional pressure activates your intellect, lighting it up to outshine and keep reality at bay. The "computer" lights of your intellect go on each time you are selfishly excited or upset. And when the intellect glows brightly, it illuminates the wrong path of action, causing you to move violently or "lovingly" in the wrong direction. Under cover of emotional, intellectual stimulation, the identity of your corrupter slips inside you. Now, "at home" in your intellect, the seducer's identity grows up in the emotional culture of prideful knowing.
     I wonder if you fully realize that the image of the person responsible for your downfall is actually living inside you as a living presence, and you are constantly, compulsively emotional and intellectual, reacting to the evil spirit of that person. Reflect back, if you can, to your first trauma, the first assault on your original innocence. Were you molested, beaten? Or were you beguiled and seduced by some­one's syrupy sweetness? Who first tempted you to take on an alien identity and turn a deaf ear to your conscience in order to justify some naughty thing?
     A positive, authoritative, fatherly inner Light guides, warns, and admonishes us, saying without words, "No, don't go that way," but you may never have listened to it. Perhaps you don't know how to at this late date, but you fell from that right knowing because you were willful and led by your concupiscence to trust the spirit of your awakening senses.
     When the Bible speaks of the heart's being deceitful, it refers, I believe, to the intellectual/emotional connection, the feeling/thought process. If you rely upon good or bad feelings
